Courses

TMROC intends to address the training and assistance required to understand both a Montessori and an urban community classroom. TMROC will offer training to foster a classroom that emphasizes: a comprehensive and authentic Montessori pedagogy; the construction of classrooms as developmentally prepared environments; Pedagogy of place–culturally responsive teaching; and Family and Community Engagement.

Primary (3-6)

For the primary course, academic sessions will be held over two summers: six weeks the first and two the second. A practicum in a classroom follows each summer. The internship phase requires a practicum over two school years and four consultation visits over those two.

  1. Institutes:

    • Six weeks Summer I​

    • Two weeks Summer II

  2. Practicum: 6 hours a day in a classroom, 5 days a week for 9 months.​

  3. Consultant Visits: four total, two each year.

  4. Written Reports:

    • Book Reports​

    • Observation Reports

    • Concept and Introduction Essays

  5. Exams (oral and written)

Elementary I (6-9)

For the elementary course, academic sessions will be held over two summers: six weeks the first and two the second. A practicum in the classroom follows each summer. There is also one Fall and one Spring Institute, which will be workshop style courses.

      • Three days for Fall Institute​

      • Two days for Spring Institute

    •  Two weeks Summer II.

  2. Practicum: 6 hours a day in a classroom, 5 days a week for 9 months.​

Elementary II (6-12)

For the elementary I-II course academic sessions will be held over three summers: six weeks the first, five weeks the second summer, and two weeks the third. A practicum in the classroom will consist of the first two years.

  1. Institutes:

    • Six weeks Summer I​

      • Three days for Fall Institute​

      • Two days for Spring Institute.

    • Five weeks Summer II

    • Two weeks Summer III

  2. Practicum: 6 hours a day in a classroom, 5 days a week for 9 months.​
